Carbon offset
Firstflora offer evaluations, solutions and innovative consulting services to reduce your "carbon footprint".
Following the pattern set by global IPCC (Intergovernmental Committee on Climate Change), the body of scientific affairs for the United Nations on climate change, we calculated the annual amount of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2) offset from each of the proposed combinations. CO2 is a measure used to compare the emissions of various gases, based on the global warming potential of each.
To neutralize these emissions we plant the correct amount of native trees or protect the natural growth of primary forest in areas that have been previously cleared or used as pasture, obtaining the double objective of seizing Co2 and reforestation.
1 kg of CO2 is absorbed by one square metre of tropical forest in a year of growth.
Only the neutralization of small quantities of greenhouse gas emissions is possible through reforestation and / or protection of tropical forest growth.
Pollution cannot be avoided, but we must avoid as much as possible to produce greenhouse gases through our living habits, for example through cleaner transport and responsible food production that is not heavily reliant on livestock (the production of meat is highly polluting compared to cereals because of emissions of methane gas and more deforestation needed for grazing land). Food production should also focus on the short chain of products: buy season fruits and vegetables produced near the place of purchase reduces the incidence of transport and therefore CO2 emissions.
In order to calculate how much CO2 emission is to be offset, we rely on calculations made by university researchers.
The global distribution of CO2 production is as follows: 2% aviation, 10% road transportation, 14% industry, 18% deforestation , 18% production of meat, 24% electricity, and 14%miscellaneous. It follows that, our primary objectives should be to avoid deforestation, avoid eating meat and use the minimum amount of electricity possible. Such measures could add up to 60% less CO2 emissions.
