Permaculture

FirstFlora leads the way for Permaculture and the processing of cocoa to create a model of wealth alternative to deforestation.

FirstFlora  have afforested buffer areas with native plants and employ rangers to daily patrol this area preventing hunting, watching for outbreaks of the fire and selective cutting of trees.
If a forest is subject to selective cutting of trees lose the most beautiful and perfect ones for the risks of genetic variability. The result is a dysgenic selection that build features that are not in favour of the species. The Pau-Brasil tree, which gives its name to Brazil, originates in the Atlantic Forest. Overexploited and exported to Europe in huge quantities for the manufacture of houses and boats, it was also an extremely important source of red dye.Today it has almost disappeared from its native forest and is the subject of a reintroduction plan.
The reintroduction of natural biodiversity in the buffer area outside the Reserve is pursued in order to build an environment where the native flora and fauna can flourish by encouraging the recovery of endemic biodiversity and promoting the movement of DNA. This also means commitment in grubbing of non-indigenous species, a major cause of loss of biodiversity on the planet.
