Birds

Brazil is the third country in the world for variety of birds after Colombia and Peru. Unfortunately, it is the country with the largest number of birds near to extinction. Of the 1212 species of  birds endangered in the world 120 are in Brazil. Plainly the situation is worse as the Atlantic Forest is so reduced with respect to its original dimensions. Of the 202 species of animals that were officially classified as endangered in 1989, 171 are of the Atlantic Forest.

Have a look to our Bird watching section: to find a general report of the bird species inhabiting the Janaina Natural Reserve and the state of Bahia.
